Gluten free baked apple donuts are a moist, delicious and easy-to-make treat for the whole family. They won't know they are gluten free!

4cupsMontana Gluten Free All Purpose Baking Mix OR Waffle Pancake Mix
4tspbaking powder
½tspbaking soda
1 ½tspground cinnamon
¼tspground nutmeg
¼cupbutter, melted and cooled
2eggs
1cupsugar
½cupbuttermilk
1cupunsweetened applesauce
1 ½cupsfresh apple, peeled and grated
for the coating:
unsweetened applesauce OR melted butter
1cupsugar
1tbspground cinnamon
ground nutmeg

Directions:
Preheat oven to 375° F.
In a large bowl, whisk together baking mix, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon and nutmeg.
In another large bowl, stir together melted butter, eggs, sugar, buttermilk and applesauce. Stir in fresh apple.
Add 1/3 of the dry ingredient mixture to the egg mixture. Add another 1/3 of the dry mixture and stir. Add remaining dry ingredients and stir just until combined.
Spoon batter into a large zip lock bag. Seal and snip the corner off one side of the bottom of the bag. Squeeze batter into the cavities of a donut pan sprayed with non-stick baking spray. Fill each cavity 2/3 to 3/4 of the way full. Use clean fingers or spatula to even batter into circular holes. Bake for 12 to 14 minutes, until tops of
the donuts spring back slightly when touched. Let cool 5 minutes before removing from pan.
For the outside coating, combine sugar, cinnamon and nutmeg in a large zip lock bag. Using either a pastry brush or simply dipping into a bowl, coat donuts with applesauce or butter. Then place in bag with sugar and cinnamon and shake to coat.
